Contrary to popular belief, Yankees pitcher CC Sabathia is not the hoofed mammal that everyone craves him to be.
Not surprisingly, Mr. A-ROTIC kicked off the horsey talk after last night’s victory over the Angels.
Via Harvey’s favorite columnist:
“You know, CC gets loose after 90 pitches,” Yankees’ third baseman Alex Rodriguez said. “He’s a horse. He’s a monster.”
The AP got the same exact quote, but that didn’t stop writer Greg Beacham from engaging in some more horseplay.
The splendid slugger and the workhorse starter both acknowledge that until they win a title, they’re still not a big part of their club’s hallowed history.
“He’s a horse. He’s a monster,” Rodriguez said of Sabathia. “We’re so glad to have him on our team.”
Big League Screw must’ve been having bestiality dreams last night.
It’s pretty obvious that CC is exactly the horse that the Yankees pursued.
While I haven’t been privy to the fine-print of CC’s contract, NY Post columnist Joel Sherman apparently has.
Fortunately for the Yankees, so is Sabathia. He has embraced all the responsibilities. Of the contract. Of being the ace for a team with the must-win credo. Of being the big horse at this time of year.
And then there’s Newsday scribe Ken Davidoff, who looked into his crystal ball back on Oct. 17 and saw . . . a HORSE!
He will be the horse that Brian Cashman desired for more than a year. The secret target the Yankees’ general manager had in mind when he passed on a Johan Santana trade during the 2007-08 offseason.
Alas, I guess this all comes back to The Boss. Mistah Steinbrenner is, after all, quite fond of horses.
