One NFL source insists Favre can’t peacefully retire until he finds a way to get revenge on the Packers. He wants back into the NFC North so he can face the Packers twice. The Bears traded for Jay Cutler and the Lions drafted Matthew Stafford. Hello, Minnesota.
“Favre can’t stand Green Bay,” the source said. “He wants to play Green Bay and say, ‘I told you so.’ His bitterness is creating this. I think he’s calling Minnesota. I think Minnesota is talking about this as we speak. You haven’t heard the end of Favre. No way. He is bionic. As long as somebody will let him in, he will play.”
The world that Brett Favre lives in seems nice. Entire professional sporting leagues exist solely to be foils in his no-doubt-someday-dull-as-shit autobiography. Media members unabashedly glorify him because he won a Super Bowl and bunch of MVPs nearly 15 years ago. He plays like a child? Fuck you. I hate children. They ruin everything. A gunslinger, you say? Yeah, great, him and Plaxinooch. Yes, Brett, how dare an NFL team want to move from it’s 38 year old interception machine of a quarterback to the promising, much younger QB that they took in the first round. The Packers put up with so much of his prima donna tactics longer than any team needed to. Yes, they did owe a little bit, but did anyone think the Packers were in the wrong for finally parting ways with him after he continued to hold their offseasons hostage, year after year?
And it’s not like he set the world ablaze in NYC. A 1:1 touchdown to interception ratio isn’t good. That’s Orlovsky territory. And what happened when the team needed him the most just needed him to not suck in order to make the playoffs? He went 1-4, including losses to SF, DEN and SEA, and threw 2 touchdowns along with nine picks. He’s a subpar QB who’s a bye week fantasy fill in at best.
I don’t know what’s more absurd at this point, that he continues to do this every offseason or that he gets a complete ballwashing from the powers that be. I can’t stomach another summer of ESPN ambiguous updates and reports that state nothing. I can’t sit through any more “Aw shucks, I put my Wranglers on one leg at a time. i just want to go out and play football” press conferences. If 2009 becomes another Summer of Brett, I’m going to lose my goddamn mind.
