Back in January, Danilo Gallinari kindly asked the marketing freaks at MSG to stop shoehorning him into a Pinocchio-like character.
Matched up against the Bulls, Gallo was stampeded by classic Goomba stereotypes.
After each of his four baskets, the Knicks’ long-time public address announcer Mike Walczewski, using a thick Italian accent, said “Daneeelo Gal-lin-ar-ay” and then the Italian songs “Volare” or “That’s Amore” were played.
Apparently, Gallinari would prefer to hear a more updated, age-appropriate song. Also, the Italian journalists who attend Gallinari’s home games said the song stereotypes Italians.
After hearing Kelly Tripucka’s comments during halftime of tonight’s game, it’s pretty obvious Gallo’s concerns have fallen on deaf ears.
Here, check it out:
And so was the producer — evidenced by how fast he cut to the outro music.
I imagine said producer spitting Diet Coke all over a monitor, punching the air and ranting about Tripucka’s awning of a forehead.
Before the next game, Gallo should scribe “KELLY” on the back of one sneaker and “FRANK” on the back of the other.
Don’t worry, Tripucka will get the message.
If he doesn’t, well, he is Polish.
