Perhaps you’ve already seen this item on either SbB or Darren Rovell’s page:
I was surfing auction sites last night and I stumbled across a pretty unique item. It’s a ball signed by New York Yankees great Mickey Mantle, but instead of the normal inscription like “536 HR’s,” it says “F**k Yogi.”
It’s of course referencing the Yankees catcher Yogi Berra, who Mantle played with for so many years. Mantle and Yogi got along just fine. But some collectors have said that when Mantle wasn’t in his best form, you could get him to write almost anything.
If this is indeed the case, then it’s possible that there are an inordinate amount of these baseballs out there signed by Mickey in which he’s playfully disparaging a former teammate. That’s when I thought “Why don’t I try to locate them?” I used to be a collector of sorts. Hardcore, too. I wasn’t above eating whatever terrible lemon flavored cake Drake’s had to offer in order to get my Keith Moreland Big Hitters card when I was six. And this should be a lot easier. So I went to to the same auction sites Rovell visited and lo and behold, what do you know? A virtual treasure trove:
