Just doing my part to help every guido reach his dream of being eternally bronze. That’s right. Everyone’s favorite fist pumpin’, smoke stackin’, fugheddin’-about-it lil state has a Hall of Fame “to honor citizens who have made invaluable contributions to society and the world beyond” which means a few members of our staff, the folks over at Hugging Harold Reynolds, and that lovable scamp Zac Braff have something new to shoot for now.
Unfortunately, as of right now, the Hall exists exclusively as a website, there’s no actual building to visit and there doesn’t seem to be any sort of tangible plan of erecting one anytime soon. In my opinion, they should put the Hall in an already existing Jersey landmark. The Shoot The Geek booth in Seaside, the wall by the bathroom at Ralph’s Pizza in Nutley, or the liquor store where my buddy worked that Alaa Abdelnaby used to frequent would all make fine choices.
The inaugural class is an impressive lineup but let me just say this: the fact the Jon Bon Jovi didn’t get in on the first try is downright unfathomable. As far as the music hierarchy in NJ is concerned, JBJ is the Wagner to Sinatra’s Ruth and Springsteen’s Cobb. All three should have went in together. Others who should go in sooner rather than later: Kevin Smith, Redman, the hot dogs all the way from the Hot Grill, the entire city of Camden, and Annie.
