Jarrod Washburn’s Spot On Self-Aware Critique As To Why He Wasn’t Traded

Posted by Harvey Bars · August 17th, 2008

Jarrod WashburnA rumor from last week had the Twins claiming Washburn off waivers, yet a deal was not worked out, most likely because those wily Mariners don’t plan on losing in September and at 46-76 are poised to make a run at the wild card. The deal had the Twins sending Boof Bonser to Seattle for the lefty. Trading old crap for young crap. I’m into it. Obviously, the M’s were not. Washburn, who has a house in Minnesota, was disappointed as well. He also seems to have a pretty fair grasp of his market value:

“If that was the case, how much more do you think you’re going to get? A young guy with a great arm who’s cheap.”

Sometimes Jarrod, I guess teams realize that 34 year old lefties who make nearly 10M a year with an ERA of 4.58, a WHIP of 1.58 and a K/BB ratio of less than 2:1 in the last year of their contract don’t come around that often.
