New York Post baseball writer Joel Sherman doesn’t look like a monster.
His slight frame, gentle eyes and well-conditioned hair make him look like a guy that would have fit in well with the cast of Seinfeld.
But, alas, his docile features seem to be merely a guise, hiding the ugliness that is Joel “HARDCORE” Sherman.
Unearthed in TBL’s interview with SI’s John Heyman was this little tidbit.
Joel Sherman of the New York Post pummeled some photog (I think from Newsweek, at least that’s what he claimed) in the dugout at Fort Lauderdale Stadium during spring training sometime in the early ‘90s. I think they were jockeying for position, and this other fellow, who may still be recuperating as far as I know, pushed Joel a little too far. This was the most one-sided fight I had ever witnessed, like if Mike Tyson in his heyday took on your average accountant, or if Prince Fielder had been allowed to keep pummeling Manny Parra.
But Joel “HARDCORE” Sherman isn’t just satisfied with turning human faces into Picasos, he also unleashes his rage on mascots. During a June broadcast on YES, I remember Michael Kay telling a story about Sherman transforming Mr. Met’s face into shmegma.
Paraphrasing: Mr. Met, playfully toying with an ardently working Sherman in the press box, pushed the wrong button with one of his four fingers. Joel, who was already well into “HARDCORE” territory, lashed out and knocked Mr. Met.
Sherman, a beacon of testosterone to all the DD breasted sportswriters out there, clearly wakes up in the morning and thinks one thing: “It’s time to suck today’s dick, that’s what I’m talking about.”
So, who else has Joel went hardcore on? Hungry minds MUST be satiated with all the face-pounding details . . . I’ll take ANY Sherman ass-beating stories — even from little Timmy Lebowitz, who I’m sure Joel sodomized with a torah back in middle school.
