I’m On To Your Tricks Shaun King

Shaun King

Here’s an interesting article that looks into whether or not black free agent QB’s who are having a hard time finding work are being discriminated against. I don’t know if it’s so much race as it is mediocrity (would you be excited in the least if you read that your team was bringing in Aaron Brooks?) but I am surprised that Quinn Gray can’t find a backup job somewhere. ESPN analyst and owner of a pair of adorable, dainty hands, Shaun King, when asked aboout the subject weighed in with a little not so subtle, self-promotion:

“Blackballed might be too strong a word. But if you really are objective, the facts point to it must be something. It’s outside of normal when you look at the way that some of the quarterbacks are recycled. If you look at the rosters right now — and I don’t want to call specific guys’ names, but if you look at the rosters in the National Football League and then you ask yourself based on accomplishment alone — how is an Aaron Brooks or a Daunte Culpepper or a Byron Leftwich or a Shaun King, for that matter, not somewhere?”

Let me lay out King’s recent career timeline for those of you who haven’t been keeping up:

  • 2004 – Released by Cardinals
  • 2005 – XBox, self-reflection, denial, etc.
  • 2006 – Signed by Lions, released after Josh McCown came aboard. Signed with Colts in June, released by September.
  • Still in 2006 – Signs with the Las Vegas Gladiators of the AFL, released after going 1-5, although he did have a 10 TD game.
  • 2007 – Signs with the Hamilton Tiger Cats of the CFL but is released 18 days later.

  • It’s time to let the dream fade, Shaun.
