I see that Carlos Marmol is replacing Kerry Wood on the NL All Star roster. Nothing says “I deserve to be an All-Star” like a 9.37 ERA over June and July. Granted, Marmol was downright filthy in the beginning of the year and he has like 34.3 K/9 rate, but he’s been average at best of late, highlighted by yesterday’s outing in which he gave up four runs and was booed off the mound by the Wrigley faithful. Which brings me to my next point, do we really need another Cub on this team? Since nearly every NL starter on the roster threw either today or yesterday, why not add Cole Hamels or Johan to the team? Or if they’re steadfast about keeping the same number of relievers on the roster, they should have considered Francisco Cordero or Jon Rauch. If MLB is going to insist on keeping that terrible one-rep-per-team rule, they should also cap the number of players from one team as well. Or they could just make the game not count for anything nearly as important as home field advantage in the World Series, but that’s probably too rational a concept.

You’re right, he hasn’t been so good recently. When he has his stuff, oh lord, it is lights out.
