Ozzie Newsome’s Mock Draft Already 0-1

April 22nd, 2008 · 7 Comments

Here’s an excerpt from this article:

“I think one of the best parts of the draft is the intrigue that goes with it with what other teams are going to do,” Newsome said. “Right now, probably half of you think Jake Long is going to be the No. 1 pick. I’d probably smile and say that’s not going to happen. And, [Miami is] negotiating with the kid right now, for whatever reason.”

Well, Newsome is no threat to Mel Kiper’s job as proven here:

“Michigan offensive lineman Jake Long and the Miami Dolphins have agreed to terms on a five-year deal, FOXSports.com has learned, and Long is slated to fly into Miami later Tuesday to join his new team. There has been much speculation recently that the team was setting up a smoke screen in their interest of Long, but apparently it wasn’t a ruse.”

LSTM. Classic. The Oz has been off his game for a few years now.

Classic Ozzie. Make everyone else think he’s fallen off his game with some silly public comments. For this draft, I’ll slot Ozzie for 22 Pro Bowlers. Who would win in a draft-off between Ozzie and a hurricane? What if the hurricane was named Hurricane Ozzie?

I wish part of my job entailed purposely saying dumb things that gives my contemporaries the idea that I was a complete moron. That seems like it would be fun. First thing I’d do if I was an NFL GM, would be to call a press conference and openly declare that we’re taking the best punter available and then I would proceed to piss myself.

I’m thinking Ozzie hedges his bets and just drafts Matt Ryan, Chad Henne, Joe Flacco and Andre Woodson. Or maybe he just drafts Ryan as a QB closer and only brings him in during the fourth quarter since he seems to kind of suck during the beginnings of most games anyway.

Harvey, that’s the kind of innovation Ozzie brings to the table. I think we go with Troy Smith to start, Boller for the middle innings and Ryan or whoever we trade up to get later in the first to close it out. That takes all the pressure off the rookie and the eternal rookie.

Not only is ‘Eternal Rookie’ just a perfect description for Kyle Boller, but it might be be the most accurate description of anyone, in any field, of any time, of any age, ever.

Didn’t Tirico Suave’s own White Velvet predict this like 4 months ago?

Thank you, thank you. That’s the kind of fan self-loathing you can find at Tirico Suave and East Coast Bias.
