This tidbit from Pro Football Weekly caught my eye, mainly because I’ve overdrafted Vernon Davis in fantasy leagues two years running now. He’s my new Rickey Dudley.
One of the most interesting things to watch in San Francisco will be how well Niners TE Vernon Davis is able to digest new coordinator Mike Martz’s offense. In regard to Davis’ performance last season, one of his teammates told a team source that he had never seen an NFL starter make so many mistakes.

I’m fairly sure the S.F. Niners have had 4 different offensive coordinators in the last 4 seasons. With that kind of changes on offense, its hard for the quarterback and his receivers to get any kind of momentum. 3 different quarterbacks also started at some point during the season for S.F. last year
I’m not trying to downplay vernon’s mistakes, but they first have to get a stable environment that will allow the players to succeed.

The Niners are in a rebuilding period, and Davis certainly isn’t solely to blame for all their struggles, but he just looked very uninterested at points last year. And the fact that this came from a teammate and was made public tells implies that someone’s trying to light a fire under his ass. Regardless, #6 overall was probably a little bit of a reach for TE.

I can’t believe neither of you mentioned how absolutely terrible I am. Seriously, I’m like Joey Harrington but with the hands of child.

I agree with Chuck ..with 3 different offensive coordinators there is no momentum and consisntency in the offense thats why they were dead last in offense last year…I feel bad especially for Alex Smith, he had to learn three different types of offense so far and comes fourth this coming season. Thank God Mike Martz scheme have some similarities with Norv Turner’s offensive style..So leave Vernon Davis alone…Im sure he is trying just as hard as the rest of the team to be the best!!
