When free agency begins Friday, the Jaguars will acquire wide receiver Troy Williamson from the Vikings for a sixth round draft pick, pending a physical and, I presume, after Williamson’s lawyers have a quick glance at Jacksonville’s grieving policy. Once official, the deal will bring to fruition the Jaguars master plan, several years and draft picks in the making, of combining five underachieving, mediocre receivers and forming one monster wideout, incapable of being covered by even the most shutdowniest of cornerbacks. I know. It sounds nucking futs, but look at these combined numbers I had Shakes DiMaj crunch for me on his abacus:
| Player | Rec | Yds | TD |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ernest Wilford | 45 | 518 | 3 |
| Dennis Northcutt | 44 | 601 | 4 |
| Reggie Williams | 38 | 629 | 10 |
| Matt Jones | 24 | 317 | 4 |
| Troy Williamson | 18 | 240 | 1 |
| TOTAL | 169 | 2305 | 22 |
Now put those figures up against this year’s top receiver and it’s barely even a contest:
| Player | Rec | Yds | TD |
|---|---|---|---|
| Randy Moss | 98 | 1493 | 23 |
Brace yourself National Football League. The days of putting 10 in the box against the Jaguars is over. You’ve been warned.
